“Motivation gets you started, habit keeps you going” - Jim Rohn
I don't feel like it.
I just don't feel like it.
Maybe later, later turns into tomorrow, tomorrow turns into never.
How many times have you played "I just don't feel like it" track in your life?
You see, the more you keep replaying I don’t feel like it, the more normal it becomes.
Is this the norm you really want, stripping away at your goals, future, and aspirations day by day, moment by moment? Or would you rather take control of you, turning those moments into choices, turning those choices into your personal power and strength?
And the great news is, the more you take action, the more natural this becomes.
So, what do you choose?
Observe vs React
How many times in your life have you given energy to things that don’t serve or grow you?
What often happens next is that the situation seems to worsen—you feel stuck, lose control, and end up right back where you started, or worse.
What you do in those moments is what makes all the difference.
Something I heard from a dear friend and mentor, John Assaraf, many years ago:“You are not your thoughts, feelings, or emotions.”
Read that again: “I am not my thoughts, feelings, or emotions.”
Yes, you read that right. You have thoughts, feelings, and emotions—but you are not them.
If I am not them, what does this mean?
Take Action Even When You Don't Feel Like It
It means you have a choice in what you do next, in every given moment.
Do you choose to react and give energy to “I don’t feel like it”—or can you give yourself another command and follow through with that?
You might be thinking, This seems impossible.
The key is to pause, observe your thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a calm state, and then shift to the next step.
Why? Because in a calm state, you have more choice and control compared to being in a hectic, stressed state.
Think about it: when you calm down, how do you feel, think, and act? Versus when you’re in a stressed, go-go-go state—how do you feel, think, and act?
So, one of the keys when “I don’t feel like it” comes into play is to respond, not react.
"I don’t feel like it."...
Now you can make the shift—what will you do next?
I Don't Feel Like It...But I Did It Anyway
That "I don't feel like it" feeling hits us all, doesn't it?
Just the other day, I was dreading my workout, but I remembered a powerful lesson from my mentor John Assaraf - “The habit is more important than the intensity.”
As I observed the "I don't feel like it" thoughts and feelings. Remember one powerful teaching of “THE HABIT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE INTENSITY AT FIRST!”
With that in mind, I was able to override get follow my daily routine - practicing heartfelt gratitude, meditating, "innercising", reviewing my goals, visualizing, reading a page of a book, reviewing John's book Innercise, taking inspired action steps toward my goals, and focusing on building more empowering habits”
Break it down to the ridiculous
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
How do you eat "I don't feel like it"? One step at a time. Start small, Just a little but.
Don't try to take the whole elephant, take one small step at time.
Try one minute of exercise, write a single sentence, drink a glass of water even if half, meditate for 30 seconds, tidy up one item, or take a quick walk around the room. Building up as you go along.
Creating a compound effect over 6 years, now has made a big difference - can it have a huge impact in your life too.
Yes, we all have disempowering thoughts, feelings, and emotions... but it's what we do that makes the difference.
As I mentioned above we are not our thoughts, feelings, or emotions .
Observe them, and then choose to step into more empowering actions.
When I "don't feel like it", Do just a little bit to show yourself that you can override your old patterns. And that little bit adds up to a little bit more. In the end, you will feel proud and joyful in multiple ways:
You controlled my actions
Yuu overrode my unpleasant or unproductive thoughts or feelings
You gained more confidence and certainty
You gained more energy and focus
You feel 100% better!
Remember - "The habit is more important than the intensity!" If you don't feel like it... do a little anyway. Over time, this creates a compound effect, and you'll build up the "I can do it" muscles. One little step each day can make a huge difference.
Choose powerful habits, and success can be your buddy!
3. Consistency is Key
Many people fall short because they lack consistency. They try a little, then slip back into old habits. If you want different results, you must be consistent. Think of it this way: you don’t just exercise or eat healthy for one day and see rapid change in your life. Change takes time and consistency.
You read that right—“Change takes time and consistency.”
So, are you someone willing to do whatever it takes, or are you content with where you are right now? If not, then stay with it every day. Yes, every day, for at least 100 days.
Why? Because your future is on the line with every moment you choose to take action or not.
It also takes 66 to 365 days to build a habit. What does this mean?
In simple terms, if you stick with even the smallest actions daily, they gradually become second nature. Eventually, you won’t have to push yourself as hard; it will feel natural, like brushing your teeth. The key is patience and commitment, knowing that every day brings you closer to making this new habit a lasting part of your life.
And 100 days is the sweet spot. So, next time you’re looking to start something, ask yourself:
Are you committed to taking action every day for the next 100 days, no matter what?
And finally, remember this:
We’ve all faced those days when we think, "I just don’t feel like it." It’s so easy to let that thought spiral into inaction, isn’t it? But what if you could flip the script? Instead of getting stuck, you can choose to take one small step.
Every action, no matter how tiny, builds momentum. So, when those “I don’t feel like it” moments hit, ask yourself: What small action can I take right now? You have the power to choose, and each choice shapes your future.
Let’s make those small steps count and build the habits that lead to greater success! It’s your time to become and achieve your best self. Start today—not later. So, will you?
To the greatest version of you.
